Before you begin wearing your first pair of contacts, Prairie Eye Care will test your visual acuity and perform various tests to evaluate your eye health. You may be asked questions regarding your lifestyle and how you plan to wear the contact lenses, whether it will be on a daily basis or occasionally.
We are experienced in fitting a variety of types of contact lenses: soft lenses and RGP/ rigid contact lenses, coloured contact lenses and specialty multifocal/ bifocal contacts for seeing distance and near.
Ocular and corneal assessments are important when determining the correct contact lens. Using results from refraction and corrective lens analysis, your eye doctor will be able to provide you with a contact lens prescription. This prescription is different from your eyeglasses prescription because, while eyeglass lenses are positioned approximately 12 millimeters away from your eyes, contacts sit directly on the surface of the eyes. An improper fitting or inaccurate contact lens prescription may cause damage to the health of your eyes and poor vision.
Determining which contact lens is right for you is more than just picking a lens!
There are hundreds of lenses available to a patient at Prairie Eye Care!
Your optometrist will consider the curvature of your eye, how often you will be wearing the lenses, lifestyle and work-life, the stability of your tear film (how dry or lubricated your eyes are), as well as your corrective lens prescription. You will be provided with a pair of lenses to try out! If you haven’t worn contact lenses before or you need a refresher on how to insert and remove them, one of our contact lens staff would be happy to sit down with you to teach you proper care habits.
One we have determined the best lens for you, your contact lenses will be ordered, you will be provided with care and hygiene instructions, how long to wear them, and how to store them.
