Common Lens Treatments and What They Do

Not sure what “anti-reflective” or “blue light filter” actually means? Here’s a breakdown of what’s available and what might work best for you.

gentleman

Anti-Reflective Coating (AR)

Helps reduce glare from lights and screens, making your vision clearer, especially at night. This treatment also helps others see your eyes more clearly (no more reflection in photos or during meetings).

Good for: Night driving, office work, video calls, low-light settings.

High-Index Lenses

Thinner and lighter than standard lenses, especially helpful for people with stronger prescriptions who want a more comfortable, less bulky feel.

Good for: Strong prescriptions, lightweight frame fit, cosmetic appeal.

Blue Light Filter

Filters out a portion of high-energy visible (HEV) light from digital screens to help reduce strain, fatigue, and potential sleep disruption.

Good for: Adults and kids who spend several hours a day on devices.

UV Protection

Blocks harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching your eyes, helping prevent long-term damage like cataracts and retinal issues.

Good for: Everyone, especially those who spend time outdoors.

Scratch-Resistant Coating

Adds a hard finish to lenses to reduce everyday wear and tear, especially important for kids, active adults, or anyone rough on their glasses.

Good for: Everyday use, children’s glasses, backup pairs.

Photochromic Lenses (Light-Adaptive)

These lenses darken automatically when exposed to sunlight, then fade back indoors. No need to switch between glasses and sunglasses.

Good for: Convenience, light sensitivity, driving, walking, working between indoors and out.
