Refractive Surgery Co-Management at Prairie Eye Care

If you’re considering laser eye surgery like LASIK or PRK, you don’t have to navigate the process alone. At Prairie Eye Care, our trusted eye doctors offer co-management services that keep your care team consistent, from the first conversation to your final post-op visit. We’ll help you decide if surgery is the right option, refer you to a reputable local specialist, and provide all follow-up care right here in the clinic.

What Is Refractive Surgery?

Refractive surgery is a category of vision correction procedures that reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. This includes LASIK, PRK, and SMILE, which work by reshaping the cornea to correct conditions like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. Other procedures, such as ICL (Implantable Collamer Lenses) and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), improve vision without altering the cornea, making them a strong option for patients who may not be candidates for laser-based surgery.

While laser surgery is safe and effective for many patients, it’s not the right fit for everyone, which is why a full eye exam is a critical first step. We’ll assess your overall eye health, lifestyle, and prescription before making a recommendation.

What We Do (and Don’t Do)

We don’t perform laser surgery ourselves, but we work closely with trusted ophthalmologists who do. Our role is to:

  • Perform your pre-operative eye checkup
  • Determine whether you’re a good candidate based on your eye health and goals.
  • Refer you to a local refractive surgeon if appropriate.
  • Provide all post-operative care and monitoring in our clinic.
  • Keep communication open between you and your surgical team.

You stay with optometrists at Prairie Eye Care you already know and trust, even while exploring a surgical option.

Is Refractive Surgery Right for You?

During your consultation, we’ll take the time to understand your goals, lifestyle, prescription, and expectations. We’ll explain the risks and benefits clearly, help you weigh your options, and guide you honestly—without pressure.

We believe this process should feel like an extension of your family eye care—not a sales pitch. If refractive surgery is right for you, we’ll ensure your transition is smooth, well-supported, and fully informed.
