Glaucoma Testing and Ongoing Care at Prairie Eye Care

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” and for good reason. It can progress with little to no symptoms until vision is permanently affected. That’s why regular eye exams are essential. At Prairie Eye Care, our experienced optometrists focus on early detection, careful monitoring, and long-term care plans that help protect your vision and your peace of mind.

What Is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma damaged the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye. Left untreated, it can lead to gradual and irreversible vision loss, typically beginning with peripheral (side) vision. The good news? With early diagnosis and consistent management, most patients maintain their sight for life.

Our eye doctors monitor glaucoma alongside other conditions that may affect vision over time, such as macular degeneration or complications from diabetes.

How We Diagnose & Monitor Glaucoma

Our glaucoma evaluations may include:

  • Eye pressure testing (non-puff methods available)
  • Optic nerve imaging to track changes
  • Visual field testing to monitor peripheral vision
  • Pupil dilation to view internal eye structures

These tools allow us to detect glaucoma early, often before symptoms appear, and create a baseline for ongoing care. If you’re managing chronic conditions like diabetes, we may also integrate your glaucoma screening into your diabetic eye exams.

Your Long-Term Care Plan

If you’ve been diagnosed with glaucoma or are at risk, we’ll help create a care plan that fits your needs and lifestyle. For many patients, this means:

  • Regular pressure checks
  • Annual visual field testing
  • Imaging to monitor optic nerve health
  • Medication management or surgical referral, when needed

You won’t be navigating the process alone. With in-house ophthalmology support in Sterling Lyon, you may not need to leave the clinic to move forward. Our team coordinates everything, so your care feels connected and consistent.
