Eye Disease Management at Prairie Eye Care

Vision changes can happen slowly—sometimes without symptoms at all. That’s why regular care matters, especially if you’re living with a chronic health condition or are at risk for eye diseases like macular degeneration or glaucoma. At Prairie Eye Care, our experienced eye doctors in Winnipeg diagnose and co-manage a wide range of eye conditions with a focus on early detection, clear communication, and long-term support.

Ongoing Care That Puts You at Ease

Our approach is simple: give you the information you need, without overwhelming you. Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have been managing an eye condition for years, we’re here to track changes, explain what we see, and guide next steps with confidence.

Our clinics are equipped with advanced imaging and visual field testing, so we can monitor your eye health, especially for chronic conditions like eye degeneration, macular or diabetic retinopathy. We adjust your care plan as needed, keeping your vision and lifestyle in focus.

Eye Conditions We Diagnose & Manage

We provide care and co-management for:

Glaucoma: Monitoring eye pressure, nerve health, and field of vision.

Macular degeneration: Detecting early changes with retinal imaging, particularly in aging patients.

Diabetic eye disease: Including diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, with tailored diabetic eye exams.

Cataracts: Diagnosis and surgical referrals, with full continuity of care.

Hypertensive retinopathy: Linked to high blood pressure and vascular changes.

Astigmatism: Often managed alongside other conditions and included in refractive evaluations.

Corneal irregularities: When vision correction requires alternatives like rigid gas-permeable contacts.

In-House Ophthalmology Support

In some cases, you won’t need to leave the clinic. Our Sterling Lyon location offers in-house ophthalmology support for non-surgical medical eye concerns, such as macular disease management or complications related to diabetes or hypertension. That means faster access to specialized care and less time waiting for referrals.

If surgical care is required, we’ll coordinate closely with your specialist to ensure smooth transitions and detailed follow-through.

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” and for good reason. Our optometrists focus on early detection, careful monitoring, and long-term care plans that help protect your vision.

Macular degeneration is one of the most common causes of vision loss as we age but with regular eye exams and proper care, it can often be managed before it affects your daily life.
