Prairie Eye Care recommends the following preoperative & postoperative instructions to get ready for surgery and take care of your eyes after surgery:

Schedule a preoperative appointment with Prairie Eye Care.
-
Stop wearing contact lenses two weeks before surgery.
-
Discontinue using makeup, lotions, and perfumes the day of surgery.
-
Arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery.
-
Take a shower or bath and wash your hair before surgery to reduce the risk of infection.
-
Eat a light meal before surgery to avoid nausea.
POSTOPERATIVE EYE CARE

-
Do not rub or scratch your eyes
-
Use eye drops as instructed
-
Wear sunglasses outdoors
-
Wear an eye shield for the first three nights after the surgery.
-
Do not wear make-up for one week
-
Avoid pools and hot tubs for at least one week
-
Avoid contact sports for at least one week

Take over-the-counter pain medication as needed for discomfort.

Rest your eyes as much as possible for the first few days postoperative.

Vision may be blurry after eye surgery, but this is to be expected. Cataract surgery can change the way colors appear in your world; they usually result in mild itching and discomfort that is manageable through medication if needed (or not).
Make sure you keep up appointments for post-operative care because it allows eye doctors an opportunity to verify healing progress as well as determine whether or not everything went smoothly during the procedure by checking eyesight status periodically. Your eye doctor will help ensure eye health has been maintained both pre and post-operative.
